The story behind the name

Why 23?

Folks ask about the number on the gate just about every week. Truth is, it was already woven into the family’s story long before it ever went on a sign — three times over.

2023

When the farm came first

In 2023 the chance came to put the land at the center of the day instead of around the edges of it. That year turned a long-held hope into the family’s full-time work.

23

Seasons of steady work

For 23 years the fields shared time with work in education — chores before sunup, acres after hours. The number stands for all those seasons of tending the land alongside a second calling.

23rd

A day worth marking

The 23rd has long held a special place on the family calendar, a date that’s always gotten its own celebration. Some numbers you choose. This one kept choosing us.

Three stories, one number — and every time the gate swings shut, it tells how we got here.

01 / ABOUT US

Rooted in family.

23 Farms is a family-run operation in Southern Wisconsin, where the work is shared, the lessons are passed on, and every season adds another chapter.

For 13 planting seasons, our family has marked the start of the work with the same planting-day photo tradition. What began as a yearly snapshot now tells a bigger story: the next generation growing up alongside the fields, learning the equipment, and finding a new way to share the experience.

The family brings viewers into that everyday work through videos from the field and keeps the connection open for questions, merchandise, and the community following along. Together, we show farming as it really happens — practical, unpredictable, and built on showing up for one another.
